Berlin-based Snom Technology, which makes IP desktop and DECT business phones, has enhanced its Canadian presence through an expansion of its partnership with ABP Technology, an IP-telephony-focused Dallas-based distributor. The deal is particularly intended to strengthen Snom in .

“We do have other distributors in , but the primary reason for the change is that our existing distribution has been more eastern Canada centric,” said Tom Ostrander, Snom’s President of North American Sales. “We never really had a presence in the west as a result. Getting them product there was cumbersome, and resulted in much longer lead time.”

ABP is a long-time snom partner. In fact, they were Snom’s first distributor when the company came into North America. ABP specializes in IP Communications and video, IP Surveillance and physical , and IP Infrastructure and network security. While they are headquartered in Texas, they have Canadian offices in both Toronto and , and have fast product delivery, including Overnight Shipping, into every major city in Canada.

“While ABP is focused on telephony, they are a traditional distributor, who focuses on selling to VARs,” Ostrander said. “Their core focus is having relationship with two identifiable groups of VARs — telecom VARs and IT VARs, and they are different animals. Telecom VARs have relationships with PBX dealers, while the IT VARs sell our products as additional sales to their regular customers.

“We have had an incredible long time relationship with ABP, and they have a presence in western Canada already,” Ostrander continued. “They also do enough volume with us that they stock a lot of Snom products, which ensures fast product delivery. They do a great job of fulfillment on the back end as well.”

The entire Snom IP business phone portfolio, including the new D715 and D725 business desktop phones and M65 IP DECT phone and M700 multicell base station are available through ABP in Canada.
