Seagate has announced a new strategic alliance with Acronis through which Seagate and Acronis will provide Acronis Archival Storage, a long-term, secure, scalable compliant, and cost-efficient S3-compatible storage solution for infrequently accessed data that will be targeted both at MSPs and global enterprises. Under the collaboration, Acronis will incorporate Seagate’s Lyve Cloud Object Storage – an S3-compatible platform – into its archival storage offerings to help MSPs to deliver seamless, cost-effective, and compliant storage.
“Seagate’s global leadership in mass-capacity storage perfectly aligns with Acronis’ goal to offer MSPs the integrated archival storage that prioritizes security, compliance, and cost efficiency,” said Gaidar Magdanurov, President at Acronis. “With over 60% of organizations managing over 1PB of data, archival storage is a necessary solution to keep storage costs manageable. Our partners will be able to address the rapidly growing demand for long-term storage of data, and address compliance, legal, and security requirements of their customers.”
The partnership is a new one for both Seagate and Acronis.
“This is a new strategic alliance for both vendors, who saw equal value in each other’s capabilities for the market,” said Kristy DeMarco, Director, GTM Edge Datacenter Solutions, Seagate Technology, who leads the Lyve Services go-to-market team focusing on accelerating time to data for edge-to-cloud workflows across multiple data intensive applications. “We identified each other as leaders in providing secure data solutions around security and storage to the market.”
DeMarco remarked how balanced the strategic alliance is.
“Acronis chose Seagate Lyve Cloud as the backbone to the just announced Acronis Archive product as they trust Seagate as a 45 plus year leader in storage,” she stated. “We both solve for data challenges. Seagate provides secure storage while Acronis secures the data lifecycle.” Built on Seagate’s exceedingly strong storage competencies, this joint solution seamlessly integrates Lyve Cloud Object Storage with Acronis’ natively integrated cybersecurity, data protection, and endpoint management for MSPs. With no hidden API or egress fees, the joint Acronis and Lyve Cloud Object Storage solution makes backup and recovery simple, mitigating single points of failure, enhancing data availability, and building robust data resilience.
What does Seagate get from the Acronis partnership?
“The alliance brings Seagate’s technology closer to the MSP community while enabling the traditional channel to leverage upcoming bundles with Seagate standalone products & services,” DeMarco noted.
Acronis gets substantial benefits from the Seagate Lyve S3 platform too.
“They are able to offer a new object storage offering through their MSP community, while strategically engaging on supporting storage infrastructure and hybrid cloud opportunities,” DeMarco said. Seagate Lyve Cloud offers enterprise-grade security features such as encryption of data in-transit and at-rest, as well as role-based access control, identity and access management, immutability options, and it supports ISO 27001 and SOC 2 standards.
“Acronis has been at the forefront of delivering innovative cybersecurity and backup solutions, including secure data management capabilities for hybrid cloud environments,” said Melyssa Banda, SVP of Edge Storage and Services at Seagate. “By joining forces, Seagate and Acronis can leverage our combined global reach to deliver the highly secure storage solutions that the new frontier of AI requires – empowering enterprises to better protect their data from cloud to edge to endpoint.”
In terms of how the Go-to-Market strategy for this product will work, the Acronis Archive tier will be made available through the Acronis Cyber Protect Cloud offering for MSPs.
“MSPs & VARs will be turned on first within our respective channels, and joint offerings will then expand to other channels,” DeMarco stated. This solution is tailored for MSPs and IT leaders in regulated sectors like healthcare, finance, legal, utilities, and public administration. It addresses the needs of organizations that must retain large volumes of infrequently accessed data for years while controlling storage costs and meeting audit and compliance requirements.
“Acronis Archive tier is available within the Acronis MSP product while other product bundle offerings will be available for VAR/Enterprise channels,” DeMarco pointed out. Following the launch of Acronis Archive tier, she said that they will have more to say in the future.
DeMarco said that the objectives for both companies in the alliance are clear.
“We will continue to provide the simplicity that customers and partners need to help them manage the rising volumes of data with predictable costs and superior security,” she stated. “Seagate just took home AI Innovator of the Year and Best Cloud Product 2025 for Lyve Cloud. Huge shoutout to everyone pushing the boundaries of AI and cloud storage.”
