Barracuda launches Barracuda Assistant to expand BarracudaONE platform

Sean Butler, VP of Product Marketing at Barracuda

Today, cybersecurity vendor Barracuda Networks has announced the launch of Barracuda Assistant, powered by Barracuda AI, and integrated into the BarracudaONE cybersecurity platform, Barracuda Assistant enhances security operations to make it much easier for both MSPs and end user customers to strengthen cyber resilience, easily navigate threats and drive productivity and ROI.

“We are thrilled to introduce Barracuda Assistant as part of BarracudaONE,” said  Sean Butler, VP of Product Marketing at Barracuda. “We have been focused on leading in AI for some time, and Assistant  is one aspect of this. It can streamline security workflows.”

So what actually IS Barracuda Assistant.

“It is an interface, a typical interface for chat tools, backed by a threat network,” Butler  indicated. “It provides proven best practices to stay ahead of emerging threats. Maintaining a very proactive security posture is what it’s all about.”

Barracuda Assistant also transforms security operations.

“It does this by making sure that you drive to the best workflows from an operations perspective,” Butler said. “Assistant takes the guess work out of it for them.”

“Barracuda Assistant delivers immediate, actionable guidance, practical use cases and direct links to helpful how-to resources – so even junior staff can move from questions to action quickly and with measurable impact,” said Colin Petty, IT director at Gridworks. “It’s the latest example of how Barracuda continues to innovate its user-friendly BarracudaONE platform to empower IT and security teams to act decisively and with confidence.”

Barracuda Assistant strengthens cyberresilience, and delivers smarter, faster security to drive productivity and ROI. While it resembles a Barracuda SOC in some ways, Butler warned against trying to push this analogy too far.

“There are some similarities to a SOC on the XDR side of our business, but knowing where to apply the knowledge from a SOC is still very important,” he stated. “It still relies on the human element.”

“The use of generative AI and digital assistants in security operations is delivering measurable improvements across many SecOps functions, including threat investigation and response, threat hunting, operationalizing threat intelligence, and more,” said Dave Gruber, principal analyst for Omdia.

Butler emphasized the importance of the increased cyber resiliency and acceleration of response times thanks to real-time, data-driven guidance.

“A huge part of the platform focuses on defense in depth strategy and making sure that there is a strong response if there is an incident,” he said. “There’s a huge focus on making sure it is built for MSPs. It’s one of the key lenses. You can get value from it being an end customer, but MSPs will benefit more because of scale. They will get the most value here.”

The Barracuda Assistant enhances security operations by enabling customers and MSPs to quickly and easily navigate threats, troubleshoot issues, access actionable insights, and more.

“This is the first Assistant that we have brought to market,” Butler noted. “It enhances and streamlines workflows. It helps people ramp up quickly, and it shortens the learning curve. That’s different from what we offered before. Because while we have long been an AI leader, we have not had an AI assistant before to provide best workflows.”

Butler indicated that the Assistant was in development for the better part of six months including beta tests.

“We wanted to make sure that it is a strong GA product,” he said.

Even though vendors are now bringing agentic AI offerings to market by the score, Butler said that Barracuda is well positioned in this market.

“The big differentiators are our platform and breadth of offerings, such as email,” he stated. “We have a very strong understanding there. Our ability to make strong use of those will differentiate us in the agentic AI market

Barracuda Assistant is now available within the AI-powered BarracudaONE cybersecurity platform, where customers and channel partners can easily manage threat response alongside solutions, accounts, licenses, and more. It will also soon be available through Barracuda XDR, Barracuda SecureEdge and the support portal.

“Those are coming very soon,” Butler said. “We are looking at expanding because this is becoming a core part of the platform.”

The Assistant has no additional cost, just the  subscription costs that existing customers paid before anyway.

“Barracuda Assistant is like having a seasoned security professional on demand, delivering confidence and speed when every second counts,” said Jon Le Roi, IT director at The Mendocino Family of Companies. “With real-time, actionable insights and clear direction, Barracuda Assistant empowers our team to work smarter, respond faster and maintain a proactive, resilient security posture.”
