Riverbed, which provides the leader AIOps for observability and in data acceleration, has launched its new Riverbed Data Express Service enabling enterprises to radically accelerate the movement of massive datasets now required to prepare and deploy AI models at scale. This results in reaching data transfer speeds up to 10 times faster than current industry solutions. Moving this data to AI-optimized GPU clusters often takes months, delaying time-to-value and increasing costs. With the new Riverbed Data Express Service, what once took months can now be completed in days – giving organizations the speed and security of data delivery now required to prosper in the AI era.
“In today’s digital enterprise, data is the fuel – and moving it efficiently is mission-critical,” said Chalan Aras, Riverbed’s Senior Vice President and General Manager of the Acceleration business. ‘Whether you’re training AI models, migrating workloads, or enabling hybrid cloud strategies, the ability to move massive datasets quickly, securely, and cost-effectively can make or break your business outcomes.”
Built on Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI), Riverbed’s Data Express Service utilizes post-quantum cryptography (PQC) to move petabyte-scale datasets through secure VPN tunnels to ensure that customer data remains protected during the transfer process. The service includes enterprise-grade controls for secure access to data as well as the option to deploy data mover agents in customer tenants to enable additional security controls.
“With today’s announcement of the Riverbed Data Express Service, we will be helping customers overcome one of the biggest barriers to AI adoption – getting the right data to the right location, with industry-leading speed and security,” said Dave Donatelli, CEO of Riverbed. “In the first half of this year, we experienced strong demand in our overall business, achieving 77% year-over-year bookings growth. With our new Data Express Service announced today, and with more services planned in the future, we will continue to build on our momentum, helping customers maximize the return on their AI investment.”
“As a business executive, you’re navigating a world where your enterprise data is sprawled across clouds, regions, and on-premise environments. AI and analytics workloads are growing exponentially, and every delay in data movement means idle GPUs, missed insights, wasted spend, and ultimately failed business initiatives,” Aras said. “You need a solution that’s fast to keep up with AI-scale data demands, simple to deploy without friction, secure to meet enterprise compliance and insightful to give you control and visibility.”
Aras stated that Riverbed Data Express Service delivers on all four. It can move petabytes per day. It is engineered for speed, offering transfer rates from 5TB to 40TB per hour—that’s up to 1PB per day. Compared to alternative available solutions, Data Express Service delivers nearly 10x the performance at peak.
Data Express Service is simple because it is a fully managed SaaS platform—no VMs to deploy or manage, no tuning required. The power of Riverbed SteelHeads are under the cover, ready to move petabytes of data. You pay only for what you move, with a consumption-based pricing model that aligns with your cloud economics. For many data types, the service can reduce cloud egress costs up to 90%, reducing overall cost of data migration.
Setup takes minutes via a simple user interface and integration is seamless via REST APIs. It works across Oracle Cloud Infrastructure today, with planned services for multi-cloud (AWS, OCI, Azure, Google Cloud Platform) and data center connectivity.
It is built for enterprise-grade protection. Data Express Service is multi-tenant by design, with RBAC, SSO/IAM, and tenant isolation at both the control and data layers. Data in transit is protected with post-quantum cryptography (PQC) secure tunnels.
From day one, you get deep real time visibility into job status, throughput, file counts, and history – all through a unified portal. Over time, Riverbed is adding outcome-oriented insights like time saved, top data movers, and trend analysis.
Confidence in AI is rising in businesses across the globe, but in 2025, Riverbed’s Global AI Research spanning 1,200 Leaders and Technical Specialists across seven countries, uncovered persistent gaps in AI readiness. 75% of organizations plan to establish an AI Data Repository Strategy, with nine out of every 10 organizations rating the movement and sharing of AI data as vital to their AI strategy and central to the utilization of the latest AI technologies, whether in training AI models, analyzing the data for the purpose of inference, or implementing Agentic AI.
“Customers are looking for faster, more secure ways to move massive datasets so they can bring AI initiatives to life,” said Sachin Menon, Vice President, Cloud Engineering, at Oracle. “With Riverbed Data Express Service deployed on OCI, organizations will be able to accelerate time to value, reduce costs, and help ensure that their data remains protected.”
“Speed, security and simplicity are now key driving factors for successful AI outcomes,” Aras noted. “We’re leveraging over two decades of large-scale data movement expertise to dramatically shrink data transfer timelines and accelerate our customers’ path to competitive advantage in the AI era.”
The Riverbed Data Express Service is currently in limited availability, with general availability planned for Q4 of 2025.
“If you’re a CIO looking to future-proof your data infrastructure, now is the time to engage.,” Aras concluded. “You can subscribe via Riverbed sales or partners, with options for pay-as-you-go or enterprise subscriptions. Training and onboarding are available through Riverbed Academy.”
