Dell EMC will launch their new modular PowerEdge MX platform September 12, promising to remake data centre architecture with technology that will support both traditional and next-gen applications within a composable computing framework that pays much more attention to memory than earlier iterations of that technology.
Qumulo adds to their relationship with HPE from 2017, which made their software available on HPE Apollo servers with a new relationship with Dell EMC, which will see their massively scalable software become available on Dell PowerEdge servers.
A new flexible consumption model for partners to sell is the big channel play here, although the product enhancements, including a new all-flash configuration option are also significant.
The two new models include the first quad-processor environments for Nutanix environments, and a new edge appliance that can be as small as 1U. The new Life Cycle Management capability may, however, be what excites customers most about the new announcements.

While VxRail was originally aimed more at the mid-market, unexpected orders for large numbers of nodes from enterprise customers has led Dell EMC to add more enterprise features to the new 4.5 release of the appliances.
These include the first Dell EMC 25GbE Open Networking top-of-rack switch, for the high end, a new switch with Fibre Channel connectivity, and a new 1/10GbE switch for SME environments.
The dominant theme of this year’s Dell EMC World is the automation of the data centre, and a key part of that is the announcement of its latest servers, with availability set for summer.
The offering with Citrix provides the same capabilities of the latest version of a VMRail VMware solution announced at last year’s Dell EMC World, and gives Dell partners an offering for their Citrix focused customers.
Dell EMC World this year has seen the integration of support from legacy Dell products like PowerEdge servers for EMC solutions. This particular integration goes the other way, with support from legacy EMC storage management and data protection products being announced for the mid-range SC line.
Dell EMC has announced upgrades to its hyper-converged VxRail and VxRack offerings, with hardware improvement stemming both from Intel Broadwell processors and optimization with PowerEdge servers. Many more configurations will be available, including a 3 node VxRail offering that drops the entry price by a quarter.
Dell EMC releases ScaleIO software from EMC integrated with PowerEdge servers, and thinks it will be a strong channel offering.
