ESET Research webinar: How APT groups have turned Ukraine into a cyber‑battlefield

On February 24th, Russia invaded Ukraine. Just a few hours earlier, discovered a destructive piece of that wrought havoc on the computer networks of a number of important Ukrainian organizations. The data-wiping malware came to be called HermeticWiper.

In short order, another destructive attack began, targeting Ukrainian governmental networks and leveraging a wiper ESET named IsaacWiper.

Ukraine has been a magnet for cyberattacks for years, and these new campaigns were only the latest in a long string of sophisticated campaigns that have hit the country since 2014.

In this webinar, ESET’s Principal researcher Robert Lipovsky provides an overview of:

  • the damage these attacks caused
  • the most notorious APT groups that have targeted the country
  • the malware and techniques used in the attacks
  • implications for the future
