HP Canada names Biase next president

Michelle Biase, general manager of D&H Canada and incoming president of HP Canada

HP Canada has announced that Michelle Biase will be its next president.

Biase, currently general manager of D&H Canada, will return to the PC and printer maker and take over the top job vacated by longtime leader Mary Ann Yule. In a statement, HP Canada confirmed that Yule “has transitioned out of her role as president and managing director of HP Canada to pursue several new professional goals.”

“We thank her for her leadership and wish her all the best,” HP Canada said.

Biase will officially leave D&H Canada on November 22 and begin her new role on December 2. D&H Canada has announced that Peter DiMarco, the company’s senior vice president of commercial sales for the US, will become interim general manager of the Canadian operation.

At the distributor’s recent THREAD Conference in Toronto, Biase reflected on three years of leading D&H Canada and expressed the company’s ambition to be perceived as one of the major players in distribution in this country. Under her watch, D&H Canada continued strong growth. The distributor has doubled the number of partner-facing resources in Canada and has built out leadership, including elevating D&H veteran Chris Ralston and bringing on familiar industry faces David Stephens and Dan Reio.

“I couldn’t be more product of what the team has accomplished,” Biase told ChannelBuzz.ca of her time at D&H Canada. “As I leave, they’re well-positioned to take advantage, and I’m excited to watch them from a different spot.”

In her role at D&H, Biase frequently discussed the rise of AI-ready PCs in the market and Windows 10’s end-of-life next year. These factors point to a corporate PC refresh cycle that is likely overdue after the madcap device upgrade cycle in the early days of the pandemic. In her new role at HP, that opportunity will become all the more prominent.

It’s a return to HP for Biase, who left HP for D&H in 2021, where her roles included a stint leading North American managed print services, running the Canadian Print and PC Solutions business, and a year and a half as chief of staff to Yule in her role as president.

Yule leaves HP Canada after a memorable eight years leading the Canadian operation through the ups and downs of the technology market, coming on not long after the split between HP Inc. and HP Enterprise. Already an established leader in the industry from a dozen years heading up mega-reseller CDW Canada and leading marketing for Toshiba Canada, Yule championed workplace diversity and women in technology, as well as adding her voice to HP Canada’s overall strong message on sustainability over the last half-decade.

Incoming interim D&H Canada general manager Dimarco said that while his title says interim, the company’s partners should expect much more than “interim”-level support. He said most of his time will be spent on the company’s Canadian operations.

“I’m big on being in the market, in the foxhole, shoulder-to-shoulder with our partners,” Dimarco said. “[Canadian solutions providers] will get every ounce of my commitment.”

He said he likes to focus partners on “the next big problem we have to solve together” and turn that problem into an opportunity to grow the business.

Dimarco is based in Buffalo, NY, about a two-hour drive from D&H Canada’s Toronto-area headquarters on a good day.

“My life, my passion, and my focus will be on Canada, moving forward,” he said. “I want to dig in on our growth strategies and all the plans already in place and, from there, assess what we need from a leadership perspective. We have a great foundation of leaders in Canada to continue taking market share and providing more value for our partners.”
