The partnerships around Cisco and HPE all-flash servers are backed by Joint selling and marketing programs, in what is a major initiative for all the companies involved.
Today, Cohesity is introducing its I/O Boost technology, an enhancement to its Cohesity DataPlatform that improves data management capabilities for all-flash solutions for two strategic alliance partners Cisco and HPE. Its improved throughput and bandwidth capabilities reduce the number of licensed nodes required, and significantly betters performance and accelerates data management workloads.
“This is a major software advance to our data platform,” said Nikitha Omkar, Sr Product Marketing Manager at Cohesity. “I/O Boost is our term for all the engineering work we have done to enable Cohesity to run more effectively on all- flash servers from HPE and Cisco, and improve our capabilities by teaming up with our leading technology partners around their all-flash solutions.”
While all-flash is generally acknowledged by analysts to have much stronger momentum than slower alternatives like hybrid-flash, and HDD, Omkar stressed that just putting in all-flash won’t solve customer problems by itself.
“Customer priorities are addressed with the speed of all flash – but that’s only one element of the solution,” she said. “You also need to eliminate siloes and manage data effectively. That’s where I/O Boost comes in. It provides a comprehensive solution that extends to backup and recovery, file and object, DevTest and analytics.”
“It’s a turbocharged button for data management,” said Sanjeev Desai, Senior Director, Solutions and product Marketing at Cohesity.
Cohesity says the benefits that I/O Boost provides are unique in the industry.
“I/O Boost’s enhanced data management arch accelerates metadata-intensive operations,” Omkar said. “It enables a seamless storage pool and parallel access for metadata and data. It also places data and metadata on flash for higher endurance and decreased costs in the long run.”
Cohesity said their own tests show a 2-8x performance increase over their own platform previously, as well as comparable solutions
“It enables more data consolidation than ever before, and makes the solution more affordable, future proofing the environment for customers in the long run,” Omkar indicated.
I/O Boost’s higher throughput and bandwidth capabilities of flash media combined with Cohesity’s proprietary space savings technologies mean that fewer licensed nodes are required to meet performance and usable capacity needs. The flash-optimized performance also speeds data management tasks, particularly for faster metadata-intensive operations like deduplication and replication, and faster data reuse, such as cloning backup or file and object data for dev/test or analytics without metadata bottlenecks. The solution also boosts performance for Cohesity Marketplace apps.
“It enables turbocharged data management to move to diskless data management, faster,” Omkar emphasized.
Cohesity DataPlatform broadly supports certified all-flash enterprise servers from multiple vendors: the Cisco UCS C220 M5, HPE ProLiant DL360 G10, Dell PowerEdge R640, and Intel Server System R1208WF. The key alliance partners, however, are Cisco and HPE.
“We tier everything together with an integrated end to end experience with joint solution that is simple to operate and simple to engage,” Omkar said. “The focus is on the two key partners. Cisco is one single point of support end to end. With HPE, the support is presently collaborative, but we are in the process of making it single support as well.”
Joint selling and marketing programs around the new initiative are in place for both Cisco and HPE.
