A look inside LightNeuron, an Exchange-based spying attack

Earlier this year, ESET sounded the alarm on LightNeuron, a new attack it discovered that took advantage of the plugin architecture of Microsoft Exchange to spy on, an even potentially block or alter contents of email messages.

In this edition of the ChannelBuzz.ca Podcast, we’re joined by Matthieu Faou, a Montreal-based malware researcher at ESET, and one of the researchers looking into LightNeuron. We discuss:

  • what LightNeuron is and what it can do;
  • who’s behind the attack;
  • how the attack has been used to date;
  • its origins as a state-sponsored hack;
  • how to tell if your Exchange Server has been compromised; and
  • what to do if it is.

All that and more in this edition of the ChannelBuzz.ca Podcast.
